Return From Tomorrow

return_from_tomorrow My friend recommended this book to me, and actually bought me a copy so I'd be sure to read it, but it still took me a couple of months to actually crack it open.  Once I did, though, I couldn't stop reading.  My dad even stole it from me and read it with my mom.

It's about this guy who dies for 9 minutes during WWII.  The book is about everything that he experiences during those 9 minutes.  It's an amazing book!  I'm not saying I believe EVERYTHING it says - I'm sure they spiced some of it up a little to make a good story - but I can't think of any reason NOT to believe it for the most part.  It at least makes you want to be a better person.  I highly recommend it.

Okay, okay :)

Ok.  Since it has been an awfully long time since I posted last, I decided maybe I should again.  I just can't think of anything to write about!  A lot has happened, I guess.  I just need to remember it.

We've recently gone through a scary time with both of my grandparents.  First, my grandma fell and broke her pelvic bone and her arm.  She was in the hospital and rehab for a good long time recovering from those.  She's just so stubborn (one thing I'm told we have in common)!  She wouldn't cooperate and take her pills to stop infection and stuff.  She's doing a whole lot better now though.

Right now my grandpa is in the hospital.  Two weeks ago today (Sunday) he woke up in the night with back pain, and my parents took him to the emergency room, where they did an MRI looking for kidney stones.  Instead they found that his aorta had an aneurysm.  The wall of it had just gotten too old and ballooned out, leaking his blood.  They rushed him in to surgery, not really planning on him making it out.  My grandpa's a tough old cuss though, and is still kicking and trying to convince the faculty to let him come home so he can fix everything that has broken in his absence :)  He's doing really well now.

My grandpa is so dang healthy for an almost 89 year old.  When they were asking him about his medical history the only thing he said was that he thought he'd had athletes foot once, and that wasn't even on the list of things to check.  He just keeps going.  I think that's the key.  Endure to the end.  He's got that part down.

My grandma and I have gotten a lot closer these past few weeks.  I'm not quite sure why, but I can talk to her a lot easier now.  I was always a grandpa's girl, and never really gave her a chance, I guess because she was always comparing me to my siblings.  Also, she would always pick on my grandpa and get mad at him for dumb things, which I hated, so I didn't talk to her as much.  I've taken her to the hospital to see grandpa a few times through this, and we've been able to talk a lot.  I can relate to her pretty well, and we're more alike than I cared to admit.  Yesterday, my parents were out of town, so I heated up some lasagna and went over to her house.  We ate together and watched an old Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Katherine Grayson musical, and thoroughly enjoyed one another's company.  Things are looking up. :)

That's all for tonight.

Musings...

Yesterday (or I suppose 2 days ago, now) Kyle, Shella, and I went 4-wheeling. I don't really know where we were, somewhere south of Hurricane, but the place we stopped for lunch was absolutely breath taking. It was a gigantic cliff with huge rocks on both sides where you could see all the rock layers and such, and the view was magnificent. You could see for miles in all directions. You could see all of St. George (the temple was so cute!) and everything else. It made me realize just how insignificantly tiny we are. To think that the entire...everything was once covered in water was staggering! And yet, Heavenly Father knows each of us individually. Incredible. And while we were playing in the sand Kyle brought up another good point. He held up a handful of sand and was talking about how there were more worlds than grains of sand on THIS world. He was holding millions, just in that handful. How can you see things like that and not know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live? It's so magnificent and perfectly planned that it couldn't possibly have been put together any other way. Like the Cheri Call song says, it passes all my understanding.
Another thing that I was thinking about that day was during the movie Swing Vote. The three of us were watching it at Shella's. The little girl lives with her dad and he's a good dad, but he's so lazy and unmotivated. She gets fed up and runs away to live with her mom, only to find her in an awful state. I think she was a druggy or had a mental disorder or something. It just made me really grateful to have been born in the family I have. I think many of us take it for granted. I'm so grateful to have the gospel and and a family that loves me and knows better than to get into all that stuff. I'm grateful that we have scriptures and modern prophets that guides us and keep us safe and happy. Anyway, those are just my thoughts for tonight.
